Swedish Envac recently won a contract worth SEK 180 million for the installation of an automated vacuum waste system in Msheireb Downtown, Doha. The client is Msheireb Properties. It is Envac sixth contract in Qatar since 2006.
The area to be built encompasses approximately 760,000 m2, where homes, shops, offices, mosques, schools, restaurants, hotels and other facilities will be built.
Currently it is estimated that the system will serve 16,621 fixed users, predominantly housing, retail and office employees. In addition, Additionally, waste from up to 50,000 daily visitors (hotel guests, tourists, etc.) will be handled by Envac’s system.
The ordered automated waste collection system will handle three waste factions;
- Dry mixed recyclable materials (glass, plastic, metal, paper, cards, etc.)
- Organic waste (kitchen waste)
- Residual waste.
Envac's automated waste collection system consists of an underground pipe network, connected to a collection terminal located in the outskirts of the area. The users throw their waste or recyclables in inlets, located inside or outside of the buildings. The inlets are connected to the underground pipe network. The waste is air- transported from the inlets to the collection station.The maximum distance from an inlet to the terminal can be as far as 3 kilometers.
Msheireb Properties believes that education of the users is important for the system to work optimally. Therefore have Envac put together a training workshop for users.
- We are convinced that education will have a positive impact on future residents of Msheireb Downtown says Msheireb Properties project leader, Mohamed al-Marre in the newspaper Gulf Times.
Msheireb Properties (http://www.msheireb.com) was formed in April 2007. It is a subsidiary of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
