The underground waste collection system in the Eriksberg area is an important part of the ambitious environmental agenda established for the conversion of the old shipyard area into a modern residential and business district.

The waste collection is achieved with the aid of a 400 Stationary System. The system handles three separate waste fractions (an incinerable, a paper and a compostable). Since the start of the construction in the early 1990s, the system has succesively been extended to serve more and more new buildings.

There are 4,440 flats connected to the system along with 82 offices, hotels, restaurants and shops. There are separate inlets for residents and commercial users.
