Wembley City

Wembley City is a development by Quintain Estate and Development PLC of 85 aces of land surrounding the new national stadium. The development will comprise of 4,200 flats, a designer outlet shopping facility, a new Hilton hotel plus retail, leisure and entertainment venues. The waste handling at Wembley is an important part of the infrastructure of the development.

The main reason the Envac system was chosen was the reduction in vehicle movements, the carbon savings it provided and for making the development a cleaner and safer environment for people to live and work. The Envac system was installed and became operational in December, 2008. Four waste fractions are collected: non recyclables, dry recyclables, organic recyclables and cardboard.

To save space a bridge crane is installed to lift the full containers straight on to the collection vehicle. The loading operation is in the collection station behind closed doors, no sound or waste smell will be noticed from the outside. The roof of the collection station will feature a green roof garden when the development is fully built.

Envac takes care of the daily operation, and the survey and maintenance of the system. We organise information tours on a regular basis as part of the user information campaign.

In May 2010 the installation of the Envac system at Quintain’s Wembley City development won the category "Waste Management Initiative in the Commercial and Public Sector" at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management. Read more
