The area has steep slopes and very difficult access for the conventional waste collection with trucks. It is a zone of great interest both from tourists and citizens with intense commercial activity including restaurants, shops and many spots of cultural interest.
The installation in the very city center gives service to the Medieval part of Vitoria-Gasteiz , founded on 581 by the Visigothic King Leovigildo.
In operation since 2002, the pipe net of this automatic waste collection system is 4,3 km long.
The 190 out door inlets collect the waste of 4.550 dwellings separately in two fractions (organic and residual).
The collection station is perfectly integrated in the surroundings.
Envac has taken care of operation and maintenance since the start-up.
