Envac has been awarded the contract to supply an automated waste collection system for Building C, the final phase of the new main building at Oulu University Hospital (OYS) in Finland, supporting the OYS2030 vision for a highly functional, cost‑effective and sustainable hospital campus.

Envac has been selected to design and deliver an automated waste collection system for Building C, the new outpatient and teaching building at Oulu University Hospital (OYS) in Oulu, Finland.
Part of the OYS2030 development programme, Building C is the final stage of the new main hospital building and brings together outpatient specialist care and teaching in one facility. The building will accommodate specialist outpatient clinics and day hospital activities, pathology laboratories, teaching and training facilities, and a teaching‑oriented social and health centre. Its design focuses on functionality, cost‑effectiveness and shared use across disciplines.
Construction work on Building C started in autumn 2025 and the building is scheduled for completion in summer 2029. The total budget for the project is €235.3 million.
Envac’s automated waste collection system will transport waste through a sealed pipe network from multiple collection points in the building to a central terminal, removing the need for manual trolley movements and the storage of waste in corridors and back‑of‑house areas. This improves hygiene, reduces the risk of infection spread, supports smoother internal logistics and helps to lower the hospital’s carbon footprint.
We are delighted to contribute to the future of healthcare delivery at Oulu University Hospital. By automating waste handling, we free up space and staff time for patient care, improve working conditions and help the hospital meet its ambitious sustainability and efficiency targets.

Envac will work in close collaboration with the Building C alliance, which includes North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region and NCC Suomi Oy, to ensure the waste collection solution is fully integrated with the hospital’s architectural and technical design.
Building C is part of a long‑term programme to rebuild and modernise Oulu University Hospital by 2030, creating a safer, more flexible and more digital hospital environment for future generations.
