About Stockholm Royal Seaport

Stockholm Royal Seaport (SRS) is one of the largest development projects in Europe. Former industrial environments are transformed into living urban environments with holistic solutions that contribute to resource efficiency and reduced climate impact.

By 2030, the SRS is expected to include at least 12,000 new homes and 35,000 workplaces – all of which will be connected to Envac’s waste collection system. The system is one of many innovative environmental technologies in the area’s environmental profile.

Envac was chosen as the supplier of the garbage collection system to share its expertise achieved, among other things, by being part of Hammarby Sjöstad’s urban development with a high environmental profile.

With ambitious goals focused on efficient resource management and delivering an overall structure that supports multiple ecosystems, the highest standards were required. When it came to waste collection, it had to be user-friendly, functional and sustainable.

With both garbage disposal and self-emptying bins deployed throughout the area, Envac has ensured that waste can always be easily disposed of and quickly transported to the area’s waste collection terminal.

The garbage collection terminal, which is located in a rock room, is designed for the best possible durability. The introduction of a heat exchanger in the station allows heat generated from the system to be channeled back into the terminal.

A weighing system is used for the containers to ensure a maximum degree of filling before they are emptied.

There is no need for manual collection or transport of household waste in the residential area. Traffic with collection vehicles has decreased by 90%, which has created a safer living environment.

Introducing Envac ReFlow

Envac ReFlow is an innovative digital solution that complements Envac’s pneumatic waste system and helps cities achieve their climate and recycling goals. The primary goal is to address the environmental challenge directly.

With ReFlow, end users have the easy opportunity to contribute to the three R’s of Reduce (reduction of waste), Reuse and Recycle.

The solution was developed in collaboration with leading experts from social and behavioral sciences, which makes it a genuinely well-thought-out and effective tool. Envac’s data-driven system can visualize waste flows and educate end users, ensuring their commitment to a sustainable future.

ReFlow improves the performance of the garbage collection system by providing guidance on alternative disposals and enabling end users to report errors. By analyzing these reports, the smart system has the potential to resolve issues automatically, reducing the need for manual maintenance and providing a seamless user experience.

The guides provided by the platform are designed to make recycling simple and user-friendly, resulting in a more efficient and cost-effective recycling process.

Users also receive feedback on their recycling habits and how they contribute to the city’s environmental goals. The platform can be displayed on building or apartment screens that display relevant information adapted to the user’s location, making recycling smoother.

ReFlow has introduced the waste industry’s first ever smart meter. Smart meters have revolutionized the energy sector with their ability to manage energy networks more efficiently and involve citizens and prosumers. With ReFlow’s smart meters, the waste industry can undergo the same transformation and improve its operations.

Data collection for best environmental performance

Envac ReFlow collects data on how the system is used. The dustbin is opened with an RFID tag and the system records when, where, how much and what type of waste is thrown away.

The data is used to provide feedback to the users of the system about recycling rate and quality. As well as to the system owners about, for example, operational optimization, not least when it comes to energy consumption.

In addition, the box’s QR codes allow guests or users without the app to report errors.
