Envac reaches new milestone at Mindemyren in Bergen
Envac has recently completed an important installation milestone as part of the continued development of Mindemyren in Bergen. A 508 x 8 mm pipe has been installed through a 90-metre-long borehole in rock, forming part of the area’s future infrastructure for automated waste collection.
The borehole has a diameter of 650 mm, and the pipe was pushed into place using the drilling rig. To protect the pipe’s PE coating during installation, PE blocks were extrusion-welded directly onto the coating. The blocks are designed as 200 x 15 mm crescent-shaped elements and function as a wear layer, protecting the pipe as it is pushed through the borehole.
The work was completed over two days. The pipe runs from a rock cavern where a waste terminal for the Mindemyren automated waste collection system will be built. The terminal will handle waste from 3,650 apartments and 450,000 m² of commercial space, and will be equipped with a cyclone separator, compaction and separate fractions for residual waste, paper/plastic and organic waste/food waste.
In total, around 1,800 apartments will be connected to the pipe running through the rock.
The project is part of the continued development of Mindemyren in Bergen and demonstrates how Envac’s infrastructure solutions can be integrated into demanding urban environments, including routes through rock and densely developed areas.
