Envac has added yet another environmental accolade to its growing global collection after being awarded the Korea Environmental Award for Environmental Waste Collection Management.

The decision to honour the pneumatic waste collection system (PWCS) pioneers was made by a high-profile panel of experts from across the private and public sectors.

The national prize, which was presented to Jong Geun Na, design director at Envac Korea by Gyu Yong Lee, president at the Korean Academy of Environmental Science and former Minister of Environment, was awarded to Envac for its innovative contribution to the waste collection industry and for shaping sustainable waste collection environments for future generations.

The expert judging committee, which included several esteemed members of industry and a former minister of the Korean government, recognised how Envac has improved the living environment of its users. It also acknowledged how Envac has revolutionised waste collection by making the process faster, more efficient and more sustainable.

Envac created the market for PWCS in Korea when it entered the country in 1994. In the succeeding decades, Envac Korea has established itself as a critical component within the urban environment and a key part of a modern city’s infrastructure.

There are currently 33 Envac systems in operation throughout South Korea, which collectively handle 54,750 tonnes of waste each year.

On receiving the award, Jong Geun Na comments: “We have come a long way since our journey first began almost three decades ago. These days, Envac is regarded as an essential part of a new development’s infrastructure, and we’re honoured to be able to make such a profound and lasting contribution to the urban landscape. On behalf of my entire my team, all of whom continue to innovate and reshape the waste collection sector, I’d like to say thank you to the committee for presenting us with this award.”

The Korea Environmental Award is supported by multiple Ministries of Korea including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
